What Remains… Original installation, 2002,  Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Provincetown, MA

ARTIST STATEMENT

A classroom is one of the most highly charged atmospheres where enormous amounts  of energy and emotion are expended in a contained space.

Concentration, angst, confusion, distraction and defeat are made visible in the school desks and chairs of the children who used them. At this moment in Sr. Mary Oliver’s second grade class, I made a conscious decision that it was more beneficial to disappear than it was to stand out – a fatal decision for a young artist. In creating this piece I am reclaiming that act, honoring it and reversing it.

INQUIRE ABOUT EXHIBITING ‘WHAT REMAINS…’

We are actively seeking exibition space for this art installation. We feel that it has a strong impact and speaks to the controversies swirling around elementary education at this time. It is our belief that presenting this work in a public venue (museum, foundation, art fair, college or school gallery or visible vacant commercial space) will open a dialogue that will benefit all.
